"Hakim" in Arabic means wisdom. Interestingly the term " hakim " is also used to refer to doctors who,before the advent of modern technology, were assumed to be possessors of wisdom.

Hakim Publishing is a small-scale book-publishing house designed to produce books that have three qualities:

1. Originality (not simply translations and/or summaries of traditional knowledge. Other publishers do that task very competently)
2. Insight into the nature of things as they are.
3. practical wisdom generated from these insights for use in both daily living and for advancement on the spiritual path.
